One Direction’s Madame Tussauds waxworks near completion as clay heads of the boys are revealed

One Direction’s Madame Tussauds waxworks are nearly complete – with images of life-like clay heads of the lads being revealed to give fans a taster of what to expect. The boys – Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Zayn Malik – revealed they were going to be joining the hall of fame at London’s famous landmark last month. And today the London attraction released pictures of sculptors working on their incredibly realistic clay heads ahead of the unveiling on April 18th.The clay heads, shown in five pictures issued on 3rd April 2013, will then be used to create the moulds for their wax figures. All five of the lads, who were formed back in 2010 on The X Factor, have been really keen to keep closely involved with the waxwork company.Ensuring they get every hair on their heads and every freckle on their faces in the right position, they had two sittings where hundred of measurements were taken. The boys follow in the footsteps of Madonna, Britney Spears, The Beatles, the Queen and many others by becoming immortalised as a Madame Tussauds waxwork.Admitting he was taken aback when they were told they were to be immortalised, Harry said: ‘We’re just kind of a bit overwhelmed. We’ve been to Madame Tussauds and seen the kind of people who are in there. It’s crazy to think that we will be up there with them.’Louis echoed Harry’s thoughts, adding: ‘I think it’s going to be quite weird to see yourself as a wax figure. But it’s an amazing honour to be there. We are very proud. The five figures, which are costing £150,000 each, will be seated on a school-style double bench which will allow devoted fans to really get up close to them. And to ensure as many fans get their hands on them as possible, the 1D waxworks will be going on tour, starting in London on April 18 where the boys will stay until July 11.They will then head to New York where they will stay until October 11 before making their way to Sydney from October 24 to January 28 2014.1D embarked on their Take Me Home world tour in February and are currently enjoying the UK leg.Liz Wells, Global Head of Marketing for Madame Tussaud’s said: ‘We have been overwhelmed by requests for us to feature One Direction.‘Louis, Liam, Harry, Zayn and Niall have been involved throughout the sculpting process and discussing the style their figures will be portrayed in.’Principle sculptor, Stephen Mansfield, added: ‘We are acutely aware that millions of fans around the world will have a lot to say about these figures and we are determined not to let them down.‘The boys have been a delight to work with, really co-operative and a huge amount of fun.’
